KATE RISDALE – SCULPTURE
Born in 1973, Kate is based in the Cotswolds on the farm where she grew up. She has been sculpting professionally for eighteen years, exhibiting in galleries countrywide and undertaking commissions.
Kate's unique making process has been likened to 'drawing in steel'. Inspired by the animals around her and by the way they move in particular, her art has a light, fluid sensitivity despite the unyielding nature of the medium. Combining industrial/elemental techniques and her intuitive awareness of her subjects, she instils life into her work.
All her pieces are suitable for outside as Kate incorporates the natural oxidizing process within the work, allowing the work to develop and harmonise with its surroundings. Coating the sculpture in natural beeswax inhibits erosion and ensures the elements are kept at bay.
Complementing her metal sculpture, she also works in willow (both live and dry) running sculpture courses and projects for schools, youth and community groups.
